Shobu (3) Satsuki (9)

In the novel of Sawako Agawa “Ukara Harakara”, some one speaks fluent Hirosshima ben, the Hiroshima dialect. Does she have a particular connection with Hiroshima? (Hiroshimat to kankei arunjaroukano ? ) This matter, I recalled her father Hiroyuki Agawa had lived in Hiroshima. He was a graduate of Hirodaifuzoku High School. I’m convinced at her familiarity with Hiroshima ben. The satsuki keeps its peek and shobu gains its flowers.

Shobu (1) Satsuki (7)

It was rainy all day yesterday. I read the book,Nihon no Shinso .
Takeshi Umehara says in his book that the district of Tohoku was once the center of Jyomon culture. And he thinks the people of Tohoku have much more inherited the original culture of Japan than others.
In the mean time, he has publicized the dangers of nuclear power generation and opposed the construction of nuclear plant.
Toyo Keizai interviewed with him on April 5. His comment is worth to listening to. http://www.toyokeizai.net/business/interview/detail/AC/14e6e18a6d22fe5395a8e2fb0784fdcd/

Satsuki (6)

Norihiro Hirata 84 got the chance to participate in Word Armature Igo Chanpionship, The Asahi Shinbun told on May 27 in it’s article “Hito.” And it is written that he is a retired teacher and in these days he used to weed the garden almost every day and read Igo book sometimes. I guess his way of life, especially weeding in the open air is the important factor of keeping his brain sharpness.

I read Tetsuo Yamaori “Watsshiga shinitsuite katarunara” yesterday. In his book he talks the view of death on literature. He covers Kenji Miyazawa “Amenimo Mkezu” and Misuzu Kaneko “Taigyo.” His story is very impressive. I want to re-read their books and I will have a new way looking from their writings.

After tsutsuji flowers are over, the season for satsuki begins. It was named for it’s blooming in May on the lunar calendar. It looks a lot like tsutsuji. We can distinguish on the basis of the time of bloom and the shape of the leaf and the flower.

Mokkoku

Whenever I walk pass the mokkoku tree in the middle of May,
I say to myself, " How glossy these leaves are !"
and I feel a rush to run my finger across them.
I used to trim these leaves in June by my own hands
without using any tools.
